Having trouble with Office 2007 ?

So you have taken the plung and installed the latest and greatest Office 2007. Everything seems to be going fine and then it starts – the apps shutdown for no reason, you are not getting the updates installed, it gets really slow etc. etc. The most irritating thing is that the issues are so intermittent that whenever your local IT Geek comes to check out your pc – it behaves perfectly…

So here is what you do -  you run the Microsoft Office Diagnostic Tool !

The What ????

It is a powerful application that comes with Office and for some reason it is very well hidden.

What is this application ?

“Microsoft Office Diagnostics in the 2007 Microsoft Office system is a series of diagnostic tests that can help you discover why your computer is crashing (closing abnormally). The diagnostic tests can solve some problems directly and might identify ways that you can solve other problems”

The Office Diagnostics Test which it conducts are as follows:

  • Setup Diagnostic – This test checks for corruption in the files and registry settings
  • Disk Diagnostic – This test looks for problems with your hard disk
  • Memory Diagnostic – This test verifies the integrity the pc’s RAM
  • Update Diagnostic – This test checks whether your computer is up to date
  • Compatibility Diagnostic – This test identifies conflicting versions of Office
  • Check for known solutions – This test reviews the data on crashes that have occurred on your system

Where do I find this Diagnostic Application ?

In Excel:
Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Excel Options.
Click Resources.
Click Diagnose, click Continue, and then click Start Diagnostics.

In Outlook:
On the Help menu, click Office Diagnostics.
Click Continue, and then click Start Diagnostics.

In PowerPoint:
Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click PowerPoint Options.
Click Resources.
Click Diagnose, click Continue, and then click Start Diagnostics.

In Word:
Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Word Options.
Click Resources.
Click Diagnose, click Continue, and then click Start Diagnostics.

If you can’t even start any of the Office application, simply do the following:

  • Click Start,
  • All Programs,
  • Microsoft Office,
  • Microsoft Office Tools,
  • Microsoft Office Diagnostics.

Hopefully this TIP will clear up and resolve any of your Office issues !

  3. Hey bro, what do you do when it tells you “you cannot run microsoft diagnostics because you do not have sufficient permission”? Even when you’re logged into the administrator account!

    Really need help here!
