From Webcam to Remote Touch – Fundawear is the new buzzzzz word

Do you remember this image ?

Trojan Room coffee pot

It was the world first webcam that was pointed at the Trojan Room coffee pot back in 1993. It was a live 128×128 greyscale picture showing the current state of the coffee pot so people could avoid a pointless trip to get coffee when there was none.

Smart app to control your washing machineFast forward many years and we have many new devices that are both connected and controlled via the internet such as live Traffic Cams, industrial machinery, automation systems and security systems to name but a few. These are so common that we don’t recall a world when this was NOT possible.

The latest trend is for large brand names to have their home appliances hooked up too so these can be controlled via the mobile phone. For example Samsung’s Smart Washer App allows you to control your Samsung washer/dryer remotely from your smart phone, and notifies you of the status of the washer/dryer, whether it has a problem and the actions you can take to solve it from your smart phone.

Weareable technologyWe are now even looking forward to wearing our connected devices too such as the Google Glasses and the not-so-secret smart watches that everyone seems to be working on from Apple to Microsoft to Samsung.

So I guess it was only a matter of time before the most avantgarde industry took the next step in extending the physical connected world and the virtual internet world. I am of course referring to the sex industry.

It is common for couples to be faced with spending time apart as they travel to other cities for work.  This obviously strenuous on the relationship as couples feel disconnected from each other.

imageNot anymore as Durex, yes the condom company, has come out with a solution to this problem. It is called Fundawear.

In a nut shell Funwawear is a his and hers underwear that is controlled by each other’s smartphone app from anywhere. Inside the underwear there are the same miniatures motors that are in your cell phone that provide the “haptic feedback” when you type (the  a quick vibrate) and these are connected to a circuit board that is in turn connected to an Amazon server which links your phone app to your partner’s underwear. When you launch the app you select a body part and the intensity of your finger action on the screen is transferred to the garment – regardless where in the world the wearer is.  “Its a project about transferring touch across vast distances” according to Ben Moir, Tech Director

Whilst this can not solve the problem of “long distance relationships”, it can not hurt either.

From watching a coffee pot via the web to a Remote Presence of Touch we sure have come a long way.

This is not available in South Africa yet as this is an experimental project from Durex Australia. However to enter a competition to win Fundawear check out their Facebook Page:  https://www.facebook.com/Durex.Australia/app_493857570680544
